FOR SOLAR OWNERS AND OPERATORS

Capture the sunshine your sites are gaining.

Sunlight across much of Europe has increased, but hail, dust and the wrong setup can eat into the gain. Know which sites and setups the climate rewards - before you buy, build or budget.

It starts with a 30-minute intro call about your question.

THE PROBLEM

Hail and dust decide how much of your sunshine turns into revenue.

Hail is the costliest weather risk for solar: in the largest solar insurance loss dataset, it causes 73% of losses by damage amount from only 6% of incidents.3 Very large hail is becoming more frequent, with the strongest increase in Europe.4 Dust works more quietly: soiling costs at least 3-4% of the world's solar output every year,1 and Saharan dust events cut output in Southern Europe by 25-40% while they last.2 Which setup a site needs - fixed, tracking or bifacial - depends on its hail, dust and wind as much as on its sunlight.

73%
of insured solar losses by damage amount come from hail, from only 6% of incidents3
3-4%
of global solar output lost to soiling each year, even with optimised cleaning1
25-40%
average output drop during Saharan dust events in the Mediterranean2

Example: one solar site on a clear day and a dust day

One solar site on a clear day and a dust dayOutput over a summer day: the dust-day curve runs about a third below the clear-day curve, and the gap between them is the lost energy. WHAT YOU GET

Choose sites and setups on the climate ahead, not the climate behind.

Outcomes

  1. 01

    Hail risk, per site

How often hail large enough to damage panels is likely at each site, now and in the years ahead - to guide module choice, tracker hail stow and insurance.

  2. 02

    Soiling and dust exposure

Expected soiling losses per site over the years ahead, and how often Saharan dust events hit each site, so cleaning plans and yield budgets match reality.

  3. 03

The setup the site's climate rewards

Fixed tilt, trackers or bifacial panels: compare expected yield and risk for each setup at the site, including hail, dust and wind stow time.

  4. 04

    A realistic solar outlook

A year-by-year P50 and P90 for solar yield, per site and across the portfolio, built on observed sunlight and climate simulations.

Example

See how much hail puts at risk at each site, and how the setup changes it.

Switch between setups and periods to see the hail exposure score per site, and what it means for CapEx and production across the portfolio.

Hail exposure of one solar portfolioEight solar sites from Portugal to Greece with a hail exposure score each. Exposure is highest near the Alps and in northern Italy, lower with trackers that stow and with glass-glass modules, and higher over the next 10 years. Illustrative example.1422104678345826

WHO IT'S FOR

For owners & investors

Buy and build where the sun pays off.

  • Compare sites before you buy or build, on the sunlight and risks ahead
  • Know a site's hail risk before you sign, and price insurance on it
  • Choose the setup each site's climate rewards
  • See how solar balances the wind in your portfolio

For operators

Keep the gain your sites are getting.

  • Plan cleaning around each site's expected soiling and dust exposure
  • Set hail stow and insurance renewals on a forward-looking hail outlook
  • Benchmark your P50 against a climate-adjusted, year-by-year outlook
  • When a site underperforms, see how much was dust, weather or the plant
